Being a simple component to produce almost every company seemed to jump on the bandwagon in the 1990’s to release a brake booster with their brand name emblazoned across it as if it were a mobile billboard.
In some cases, brake boosters can be justified to help stiffen the frame an/or fork, such as when using lightweight suspension forks, Magura hydraulic rim brakes or a Shimano Deore XT U-brake. This extra stiffness can help increase braking performance by reducing frame/fork flex, but the average mountain biker probably wouldn’t notice the difference.
