Zero Components released the Hardcore Cro-Mo bottom bracket as a more affordable version of their Hardcore Titanium bottom bracket. The axle in this case is 17mm in diameter and with a dark, almost black, finish. Certainly not as attractive as the titanium axle but functional and better value.
Otherwise, this unit is identical to the titanium version in terms of the tapered cups, 17x26x10 WIB double sealed cartridge bearings and the 4-pin or 40-tooth Shimano compatible cups available in a large range of colours.
The difficulty replacing the bearings, due to the tapered aluminium sleeve, is compounded by the fact that the 17x26x10 bearings are difficult to find and WIB no longer produce them. It means that Zero bottom brackets are better suited to those looking to build a British and/or European mountain bike for show purposes than using them regularly.
